Nature and Sea: San Bartolo Park
The Mount San Bartolo Regional Nature Park, marks the start of the coastal hill system of central Italy, immediately following on from the well known tourist destinations of the Northern Adriatic. This protected area has some very impressive natural aspects: the broom that flowers in May gives incomparable fragrances and colourful displays set against the blue-green of the crystal waters of the coast; the pebbled coast that often forms just a thin strip beneath the vertical cliff faces.
As well as its natural beauty the Monte San Bartolo Park features a sizeable quantity of archaeological and historical artefacts, ranging from Neolithic finds in the Monte Castellaro area, to the mosaics of the III/IV Century AD, which are being unearthed at Colombarone, along the old Via Flaminia; from the lost ports of Roman origin at Santa Marina and Vallugola.
